Websummit 2019

In November I and Michael made our way to Lisbon for the annual Websummit conference.

Our Way to Lissabon

On November 1st, 2019 we made our way to Lisbon. There Michael https://m-bertel.at and I combined a little vacation with a visit to the Websummit conference. In the first few days we discovered the city from many different angles.

We rented a small but nice apartment in the center of the city, in the Bairo-Alto district. We saw a large part of the city from the apartment, which was particularly nice in the evening.

In the following days we inquired about the surroundings and also came across some very interesting and casual places. These were mainly restaurants, pubs, viewpoints and small streets in the old town. Very often we borrowed bicycles to get around the city. It was also a lot of fun. Since we both love programming very often, we spent a few hours programming on the notebook.

Websummit

Web Summit is an annual technology conference held in Lisbon, Portugal, considered the largest tech event in the world. According to the organizers, the conference has around 70,000 participants and more than 500 speakers from all around the world.

For me, the highlights were Edward Snowden, Werner Vogels (Amazon), John Graham-Cumming (Cloudflare), and the expo area with several thousand exhibitors.

Every night there was a huge amount of after parties and side events all over the city. We were invited to an after-party with code challenge at Siemens. On all days of the conference and especially in the evening we met some nice and cool people with whom we are still in contact. All in all, that was a big highlight for me in 2019.
